ABOUT PIONEER FAMILIES OF HAVRE BOUCHER

Much of the information on this site is derived from the RootsWeb database developed by local historians Lloyd Boucher and Eileen Avery. The years of factual research by these individuals is a treasure for anyone interested in the journey travelled by the pioneer families of Havre Boucher.

The data published by Lloyd and Eileen draws on research by other local historians including the three “Journey to the Past” volumes self-published by our own Evelyn DeCoste and the Decoste and Boucher Family Histories published by Karen DeCoste Perusse.

The early history of our pioneer settlers is drawn in large measure from research by the preeminent Acadian genealogist Stephen White of the Centre for Acadian Studies at the University of Moncton.

Lloyd Boucher and Evelyn DeCoste have both gone to their untimely eternal rest. This digital compilation is an attempt to preserve their legacy and valuable research.

ABOUT THE HAVRE BOUCHER AND AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Society was incorporated in 2007 with founding members Lloyd Boucher, Robert King, Dan Fougere, Paul Melong and Marion (Crispo) Snair. In 2020, the Society welcomed Rev. William (Bill) Crispo to its Board of Directors. The Society’s status remains active and this organization provides our residents with a recognized structure tasked with preserving the rich history of our community.

A note of gratitude is extended to the Municipality of the County of Antigonish for providing funding to assist with the development of this web site.

The primary author of this compilation is Dan Fougere, a native and resident of Havre Boucher who has been researching local family history ever since his interest was sparked in the local history section of the library at St. FX University in the 1970’s.
